OSM Skeleton: Very large hamlet

Context

The identified feature is tagged as a hamlet (place=hamlet) even though its residential area covers more than 20 ha (the exact value is indicated in the info sheet of the MapStore map you just clicked on). That’s quite a lot for this type of settlement.

What to do?

Determine the most recent imagery for the loaded area, particularly by identifying new large buildings or land clearing.

Examine the settlement on the imagery and determine whether it is a hamlet or another type of settlement, most likely a village. Generally, a village has at least 20 households (a single household may have one or more main buildings and outbuildings) and features amenities such as a school, a central square, a religious building, etc. A hamlet has between 2 and 20 households and almost never has amenities.

If the hamlet turns out to be a village or another type of settlement, change the value of the key place.

If it is indeed a hamlet, click the “False Positive” button at the bottom to keep a record of your analysis, which can be used as a filter to prevent this report from appearing in the future.
